Look Out, France...

A member of the Craigieburn Eagles has been selected to represent Australia abroad. Senior Men's player, Jake De La Motte, will compete for Australia in the Virtus Global Games in Vichy, France from the 4th to the 10th of June 2023. Virtus Global Games is the world’s largest elite sports event for athletes with an intellectual impairment.

Throughout his career, De La Motte has brought home the hardware for Australia whilst competing across the globe. He helped his team earn silver in Brisbane in the INAS World Games, Bronze in Italy with the Boomerangs, Gold in Los Angeles in the Special Olympics, and also competed in Ecuador with the Boomerangs. Jake lives and breathes basketball. He attributes basketball to helping him overcome many barriers he has faced having an intellectual disability and living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He said through basketball, he has been able to stay active, make friends, learn discipline and grow in confidence.

I’m so proud to represent my country once again. I can’t wait to wear the Green and Gold with honour. Looking forward to going overseas to play. Let’s get it! -De La Motte

To help cover travel costs, De La Motte has established a GoFundMe page. We have attached the link to his page here if you are interested in making a donation or sponsoring Jake's journey.

The Craigieburn Eagles family is so proud of you, Jake! Good luck in France!
